Cracks or cap damage
Hairline cracks in the cap are common. A crack that widens, runs into the panels or bleeds rust is the one to show a contractor. Take a photo with a ruler or tape beside it.

Leaning, leaking or sinking? Find your permit office first.
A bulkhead job here can involve a city or county office, the Corps, ADEM and State Lands. Learn who signs off before you hire.

A hole or soft patch in the yard behind the bulkhead means sand is washing out through the wall. Rope it off, keep mowers away and note if it grows after a high tide or a hard rain.
If the top of the wall tips toward the water, the anchors or the soil at the base have let go. Set a stake and measure the lean every couple of weeks so you know if it is still moving.
After a storm, line up today's wall against older photos. Check for a shifted cap, fresh gaps, lost backfill and loose pier connections, and stay back from the edge until someone has looked.

Two counties, Mobile and Baldwin, share the shore, and each city sets its own rules. The bay is a broad, shallow estuary about 10 feet deep on average, 11 miles across and 31 miles long. NOAA About Mobile Bay Dauphin Island is the exception: its ordinance bans seawalls and riprap on the Gulf-facing shore. Dauphin Island Ordinance 105 See the west end guide.

Sometimes. Foam can fill voids behind a sound wall, but it does not fix a leaning wall or a failed anchor. Ask what is letting the soil escape first. Repair of an existing, permitted wall may fit a Corps maintenance permit. Corps Nationwide Permit 3 Read the foam injection page.
Photograph it, keep people away and call the permit offices fast. When life or property is at risk, the Corps runs an emergency permit, and ADEM can approve emergency action for up to 120 days. Corps emergency permit ALGP-15 ADEM rule 335-8-1-.07 See the storm guide.
